Mobil 1 fully synth at Asda ?32

 

just the doing a kit on Opie oils for ?35 u get your oil filter and 5litres of 5w-30 Fuchs fully oil just wanted to know if that was a good idea to go for?

cars 1.6 mx5 eunos roadster btw

So get the Mobil 1..

0w-30 will be fine in your car.

40 will lubricate abit better at higher temps/load/revs..

If you thrash your car alot go for 0w-40 if it makes you feel better.

 

what do the number mean?

 

think im gonna go for a 5w-40 fully after doing some research

 

I run mobil 1 fully synth 5w 40 in my charged 5.

 

best oils:

Silky Pro S 5W-40
Silky Pro S 10W-50
Mobil1 5W-50
Mobil1 0W-40
Castrol Edge Sport 10W-60
Castrol Edge Sport 0W-40

Well i changed my oil just a few weeks ago and used the UNIPART fully Synthetic 5w30 and it is reallly really nice oil its actually FUCHS super rebranded and was only ?17.99 engine revs lovely. I prefer to Mobil 1.
I have tried most oils but will stick to this one the engine seems to love it

 

What did you go for in the end?

Good stuff...actually i think i bought this off you from cs.net...!

 

10-60 edge in mine. its a greddy turbo, where oil is the only cooling the turbo gets.

5w-30 is listed on 5parts, but rightly points out its for the mk3 only. 30 is just too thin. All the manufacturers of oil will tell you that.

is the mk3 a ford lump? so carries over the ford spec oil from family use to sports. oops...

 

The 5-30 is too thin sometimes, but the 10w-60 is too thick, 5w-40 or 10w-50 depending on the oil temps are better choices as they will flow faster and help take the heat away

 

i havnt chosen yet i mean on Opie you do a kit for Fuchs 5w-30 with a oil filter for like ?35 but i think the 5w-30 is too thin...cant you do the same deal with a 5w-40 or a 10w-40 fully?

The service packs are as they are, if you want to go for something different, you need to pick the items individually

 

finally made my choice and went with some fuchs TITAN SUPERSYN 5W-40 High Performance, Fully Synthetic, Engine Oil from opie oils

why is ?/30 to thin? the handbook says the engine oil should be 10-30 or 5/30. i allways use 5/30 and my egine is still fine at 100K.

 

Well... Its not so a bad choice of words from us earlier really. On the older engines that may have more wear you could get higher consumption with an SAE30 over a SAE40 and perhaps an SAE30 may be more noisy but other then that no problem.

It's what I've put into my Roadster for the past two changes and I also slung it into my dad's when I serviced his NB8 last month. Worth checking what Opie oils are selling it for at the moment, IIRC it was at a very similar price although Opie do sometimes have cheap delivery deals on and the like so worth looking there before buying on the 'bay.

 

I use 5-30 in the winter and change to 5-40 for the summer. 5-30 definately stops tappet rattle at start up in the winter.
