So some Dinitrol 3125 Cavity wax sprayed into the sills/inner arches....by the time this was completed it was running out of the drain holes. You could see the mist coming out of holes everywhere.

So....on advice from the guy at Rejel...he suggested a fine mist coating of 3125 cavity wax over the bare rust free metal/original underseal...this stops the original stuff from cracking and allows the black stuff to stick like shit to a blanket....this apparently can be put on and then by the time you finish can be started at the other end with the 4941 black underseal! I didnt want to chance it though so did it a day at a time. He did send me the spec sheets though and it can be done if the temperature is ok....

All the nooks and crannies received a coat of this....by the time it came to put on the black stuff it was dry/tacky...good to go!

So I've got myself a Cobalt cat back exhaust to be fitted and the standard Billies that are on at present are a tad harsh for my local potholed roads so a suspension change is required when funds permit.....not sure whether to splash out for Meisters....I do fancy trying out a track day this year or whether to go for Sachs tourings as discussed in another thread on here....did I say the Billies are hard....there's only so much originality I can take!

Hi Frazbomb. They were refurbished by a company local to me....Glentyan Alloys in Linwood just outside Paisley . The metal lip was diamond cut and if I remember correctly Colin the owner powder coated then sprayed them to what he reckons was the original grey...there's a good coat of lacquer on them so with a bit of looking after they should remain good....they won't be out in the salt. ...no chance! Now shod with a set of Vredestein Sportrac 5's....great all round tyres.....not that I see much rain in them....the wee car doesn't get to see much of that! Cheers.

Wow!!! Those BBS's are stunning!! Where were they refurb'd? Never had much success finding a company who would re cut the polished lips.
The lips were just within the tolerance for re cutting....much more and it wouldn't have worked...
I decided to go for stubby valves instead of the oe metal ones for ease of use....kept them to the side though....so not totally original! See above post for who did them as you requested...I'm just starting to get the hang of this....or not as the case may be!

Stunning looking car, wanted one in black myself! As for suspension you need to decide on the Meisters before Monday as they'll go back up ÂŁ100+ :)
Yes I've been watching the group buys!... I'll probably leave it for the moment as I've not made up my mind yet which way to go....thanks for the reminder though.

Those are the cleanest set of BBS I've seen on a 5. The whole car in fact looks brand new.
Ah...the magic of modern camera phones....the paints not quite as good in real life! It's had some rectification here and there over the years....some chips and scratches but it polishes up well (something I like doing!).
I did consider a respray at one point but I'll leave it for now and spend the money on other bits....to sum up its decent enough but not perfect. ...the alloys are pretty good though....they've had two coats of Collinite 845 wax before they were put on the car ....but they are a pig to keep clean. Thanks for the kind comments.

In particular it's the amazingly fresh underside of that car that makes me nostalgic* for a time when mine didn't look like the alien moonscape it does now. That's really quite something.

*Almost as nostalgic as when I recognised the background in some of your photos and realised I used to play on my bike down your road in the early '70s. :)

Oh, ages ago. 1988 I got on me bike (metaphorically this time) and headed for London. But my mum and wee brother still live in Buchlyvie Road.

It was your picture with the pylon in the background and the terrace of 2 storey houses under it that made me think "that looks just like...". I remember those pylons being built when I was in primary school.
