Aah Bugger! The Rs Ltd May Have To Go!

Well bugger my old boots. I have just got the RS back from having its water pump, cam belt, every other bloody belt and seal done and the dark realisation that has been looming over the horizon like a thunderstorm has finally dawned on me. Project RS is probably going to have to go.

I had really high hopes (and a huge pile of bits to fit!) that everything could be sorted by the summer but silly little things like a full time job teaching flying to the military, being landlord to 16 tenants and 13 x 5 bedroom houses to build in the next 18 months has conspired to make an enormous mountain out of what I thought would be a manageable mole-hill.

So I suppose my questions are these.

Should I sell the car as it is (cusco cage, tein flex, rays alloys, full service 30 miles ago, kevlar seats included, chop cam cover with gorgeous paint AAARGH, only did that last week) and sell the Link, BPR 62 charger, intercoolers, ally rad, scroth harnesses seperate or:

Should I sell the lot together to someone else as a project, or:

try and get someone to fit it for me and sell it complete with the spare parts as well, or:

scrap it and sell all the bits (worth a fortune, RS Ltd seats, good diff, tidy shell etc?

And if I do do all that

What the hell would it be worth????

And what would I get (complete car that requires no time!) instead?

I hate Mondays but this one will go down as a particularly shitty one!

If you are holding down all those jobs and a property tycoon as well - I think that you should GIVE the car to me!
Seriously, best get rid for the time being until you are in a better position, then save some dosh and get something already near the spec you are striving to achieve. (Not as much fun though).
Thanks guys.

It is a very busy time. I sold the Elise to fund a kitchen in an extension we've just finished so it seems like the fun police are all over me at the moment. However, my motto is, head down early on, roof down later on! (Think that may have been Monica Lewinski's as well!)

Are you in any real hurry to get all the bits fitted? Is it your daily driver? Can you not keep it and take your time over getting it built up to what you want? It's a shame considering that you have the bits you need. Who says they need fitting tomorrow? Is the car driveable as it is? If not what would it take to get it to a driveable state? I'm sure a few Nutzers would help you out. I know I would if you lived nearby.

It seems like you have a soft spot for the RS and who can blame you it's a lovely example. Consider all the above then see if you can get to a state where you can enjoy the summer and when the heat is off a bit get to doing the extra bits.
where abouts are you. I might suggest getting the stuff fitted and enjoy the car when you can.
Just a friendly warning, please dont turn this into a 'whats it worth' thread. By all means give advice about the best way to sell the car but if it turns into anything more then that then im afraid that this will be closed.

I wasn't trying to elicit a specific figure, merely trying to ascertain the merits and value of the various options and what that might translate to in terms of a low maintenance replacement. It is quite hard to that without treading the 'what's it worth line'. I am trying my best to stay on the 'right' side of that line.

Thanks for the pointer anyway

I am in North Wales, about an hour from Chester.
if you don't need the cash keep it you silly man

or give me your suspension and cage and keep the rest.

anything else is just wrong

It isn't the cash so much (please remove all arrogance from that sentiment-it wasn't meant that way) as the room. I have room for 1 more car and I would really like to tonk around with my top down !!! when the nice weather gets here so I though about an early (crawls under the sofa in anticipation of a banter assault) Z4 2.5 or s2000. I could just keep the RS but it really needs some more oomph with a capital (MPH)

Oh and hands off my Teins!! They really are luvvvverrrly!

If I tell you to get an s2000 can I have the teins?

seriously though - you've got big plans for the 5 and no time to do it right?

by the time you've sold it on, dicked about looking for and buying yourself a decent s2000* you'll have spent more than getting a nice man to fit all your fancy new bits to the 5, it'll probably have taken longer and it won't make the excellent supercharger noise.

simples.

*I'm leaving the z4 out of the equation cos I sat in one and it was nasty)

so take it to p5 with the mp62 kit and say phil, please fit that for me.

if you have all that money AND break an RS just because it's worth more in bits, you want slapping

Just get a Z4 and save yourself alot of time and hassle, I think they're quite nice, feel abit smaller than a 5 inside due to the rear behind the seats having no space and a large centre console etc;

Go well, return good mpg on a run and look great.

Well you would go & give yourself a user name like "Fell at the last"

If cash doesn't factor into the equation, why not mothball the RS for 12/18 Months? & I'm sure with your extended list of contacts you can find somewhere for her to be stored

You would have been welcome to make use of my unit on the Deeside Ind Park, had I not given it up recently.....begining to wish I hadn't now

Thanks mate. It just gets worse. I couldn't open my door today to get in (rod dropped off inside I think) so at 06:30 this morning I was scrambling in through the passenger side. After about 6 miles, my quarter tank of gas was almost gone and I thought (hmm, non-linear gauge maybe?) so I pulled into a petrol station only to smell a huge amount of petrol fumes and see steam or smoke billowing out of the gap by the headlight. This would have been dramatic enough except for the fact, my drivers door (previously knackered) wouldn't open and by now, my passenger side wouldn't open from the inside.

There I was struggling to get out of my harness, open and climb out of the roof whilst people ran away from their cars at the pumps thinking that I was on fire. I opened the bonnet and could see that the no 3 injector o ring had gone and was spraying fuel.

By now I was well hacked off so I chucked £20 in it, jumped back in through the roof and tore off in the pissing rain, roof down, fumes and smoke everywhere thinking, go on then ya bastard, blow up on me!

Got to work 10 mins later! the face of the guard on the gate was a picture, I was piss wet through, coughing like a dog, pale as a sheet with red eyes and hair all over the place like the dunkirk tank defences.

By the time I got it into the garage at work it was hosing fuel everywhere so I pulled the pump fuse and ran it til the pressure dropped.

What was that quote, 'It never rains but...............' oh no, it does, just when you need to drive 9 miles with the roof down!!

I notice nobody's dared tell you to keep it since that last post.

I'd probably have done a Gixer to at least one of the wings myself - you seem to be taking it well.
