Looks awesome Joe!
Cheers!

Found a set of stickers that I had bought last year - the donor engine (and full car in fact) I've stripped the carbs from was built, and also badged, by a Japanese tuning house called Back Yard Racing (still got some bits left on it too). So, given the carbs are enjoying a new lease of life I thought it apt to take off the peeling GB plate and do the honours:

Also - gave the new mats a cycle in the washing machine, carried on cleaning the engine bay and generally trying to tidy her up a bit...

What are the rear lights called and where did you get them please? Do they come in PZ black?

Richard
Hi.

Lights are by Zoom Engineering and are, I think, called the Élan rear lights. You can buy them new from zoom in Japan, or via Rev9 but they're not cheap (approx $800 + vat, shipping and import duty). They come unpainted from new.

Edit : here http://rev9autosport.com/zoom-elan-tail-lights.html

I got mine used, they're in need of a respray really (but then more than one part of my car needs a respray too) but fully functional which is the important thing.

Zoom lights look good. Still my favourite but then I'm biased. Wheels and other parts all adding to it. Shorty bumper maybe still?

thanks. I'm chuffed with the lights.

Re: bumper - when funds allow! Should have had yours off you but just not the money spare at the time so it's another thing on the list :)

Hope to see at a Breakie meet soon mate.

After.

Rad slam panel, fitting cut cam cover from my donor engine, messing around with the catch-can and removing the manifold heat shield that was rattling:

Now on the under-the-bonnet list is:

New fuel lines.

Re-position the fuel regulator.

Fresh hoses.

Fit carb trumpets.

Excellent build, very nice '5 :thumb-up:

Can't wait to see the engine bay with stuff relocated, all the hoses over the carbs aren't doing justice to those

I agree (and you were right in your unedited version :) )

The plan for the bay is:

  • Regulator goes up towards the side wing, by the fuse box. This means much smaller fuel line runs needed. I've a shopping list ready to go next month when i can afford decent lines + hose clips. I'm having a proper mount for the regulator made up, rather than trying to botch something together.
  • Catch can moved, or at the very least the oil hose moved off the carbs. This is causing me the biggest head scratch - seems like the standard thing to do is to put the can on the other side - if I had a brace fitted I could run the hose along the underside of that but want to declutter the bay so don't really want to fit one. And I don't want, if I can help it, to run the line over the cam covers to the other side of the engine. So, I'm relatively limited in where I can run it due to the throttle assembly, but plan is at the very least to get a longer hose to neaten things up.

Doing both will clear up the mess to the right hand side and front of the engine.

The washer fluid bottle offends me so that'll be replaced by a scuttle panel version from Fast5.

...on which note:

  • Removed that crappy stock washer bottle and fitted a Fast5 scuttle alloy washer tank. Then (very quickly) removed it when I realised it was leaking...
  • Cut down two of the fuel lines. Whilst I'm going to fit new, shiny braided cables and alloy caps thought I may as well crack on with this, will give me a chance to see how I think the lines would be better placed.
  • Fitted new fuel regulator mount.
  • Refit shortened fuel lines, moving the regulator.

Looks much tidier (one of the fuel lines in the pic looks like it's at a much tighter angle than it actually is)

Yet to do; waiting on longer hose length to connect PCV to relocated catch can (under left hand headlight unit), and a shinier, new top radiator hose. And then I need to refit scuttle alloy bottle. And at some point give the whole bay a proper clean.

let me know how you get on with the washer bottle conversion as i keep hearing mixed results . spoke to someone only yesterday & they can't seem to get theirs to work , having tried different pumps . I also have one to fit to my car.

No problems here - aside from the leaking tank that is :) Just bought a cheap ÂŁ6 from eBay and seems to be working all okay thus far...

Makes a great difference to the bay not having the bottle there IMO

Fantastic looking car, I really like it.

Can I ask how you cleaned your radiator overflow tank ?

Just clicked on to your thread. Lovely tub.

I would have kept the gold wheels, put a few more gold pin strips on and a massive gold eagle on the bonnet. Hey presto. A mini smokey and the bandit car!!!! Ye har!!!! East bound and down!!!!!
