We have been involved in tuning MX5's for over ten years now and we are probably reasonably well known for our NA performance upgrades on the Mk1 MX5.
As a company we specialise in suspension and engine tuning and we have now owned our own Mk3.5 NC for over a year. During this time we have been...
We now have a 210bhp n/a car with over 200ft lb torque......
I'm not prepared to give all the details right now, but anyone wanting to drive the car and discuss is very welcome to call me and make an appointment.
After a cancelled ECU fitting & mapping session (ECU is for sale elsewhere) this afternoon was spent on dyno time on our Mk3.5 MX5, we have been gathering data-logs for some time from the car and today we put theory into practice by making adjustments to the standard Mazda Maps.
From the outset...
(Apologies to Mods - forgot to note this was for NC as I'm working on 2 hours sleep - sorry as I can't seem to edit title)
Wholly appreciate that this is not in the same ball park as the BBR or even TDR turbo conversions and I know that there has been some concerns raised about the NC intake...
Thought I'd start a new thread as the one paul has started has a lot about the possibilities etc. this is about my own experience driving his converted 1.8 today.
Went round today to do Pauls race car windscreen and he asked if I wanted a go. It was a 1.8 stage 1 turbo. It was running around...
Finally got around to spending a bit of time on the long neglected Mazda. Over the last year or so I have collected; mazdaspeed mirror cover, Mazdaspeed knee rests, mazdaspeed front strut bar and an aem intake. So today I spent the day fitting it all a desmegging the interior.
The strut brace...
Best saying what I want from car.
reliable road car from 1.8 mk3
No/ little lag, not interested in top end, torque is what I want.
How good is stock ecu? For this power?( reflash?)
What's the limits for stock 1.8 and 2 ltr engines internals
Is it decompression plate or new pistons reqd? Or bolt...
Just what you've all been waiting for!!!
I have for sometime been looking at turbo options for mk3/3.5's
Ok so yes I could knock something up but as some of you have spent a lot of your hard earned £££££
I came to the conclusion you would want an OEM look.
Fast forward many months.........
So out of curiosity I approached Mountune and asked if they had any plans to offer a turbo kit for the NC. Sadly it seems they are not interested despite having loads of experience with the engine and being responsible for the GT4 Turbo conversion.
Well following on from this; http://www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=104965

Thinking of a project for 2013 and looking for ideas.........
If you were to do an engine transplant to a mk3 what would you use?
Please only use something that is readily available.
any/all ideas welcome.......
Early last Autumn I was wondering what do with the car, 2 1/2 years old. I was feeling the need for a change despite enjoying the car, a few niggles were spoiling the whole experience. The worst was the suspension set up I was fed up of scraping the underside and lurching around the bends like a...

After RB manifold, Rodders back box and sport cat (and AEM)
Drives nice. Really only done a few back roads and then motorway but does seem livelier.
As regards noise seems no more noisy than...
I thought its time to make public the latest chapter.
Many of you will know I bought the high milage mk3 that was advertised a couple of months age 175k
so what have we done?
well it seems to be everyone would like 200hp
So I decided to use this car as a test bed. I wanted to build an engine...
There seems to be lots of admirable work being done on making the Mk3 more powerful.
Will the likely cost of these mods compete with 80bhp for £5000 = £62.50 per bhp available with a BBR supercharger installation?
My second day of ownership finds me enjoying this sprightly little car but wanting more torque for general road use.
Anyone felt the same and have any ideas/tips on (budget) improvements please?
I'm down South, on the way to Brighton.
I'm after doing a bit of research into forced induction on the NC shape engines, I know the NA and NB lend themselves really well, but has anyone gone to lengths with the NC? Just after common failures and stuff with the block. Just seems that a 2litre making 160bhp is a bit of a lazy engine...
