Happy New Year all,
I'm thinking of purchasing a set of Sachs oem dampers for an mk1. One quick question for anyone who's fitted them:
I see there's a thick washer on the shaft that sits against the top mount. Is this washer integral or welded to the shaft or does it come apart? I want to put foam bumpstops like mk2 have and get rid of the rubber ones, and I'm afraid the hole is not wide enough to pass that washer (don't want to enlarge the hole)?
P.S.: how's the ride with these sachs dampers?
Thanks!

Can’t recall the washer configuration, but they aren’t welded to the shaft. I’m very happy with the ride, but don’t use the car on track.

Much appreciated mate!
So the washer is just a washer and can come apart to insert a foam bumpstop on the shaft?
