Been a long time since I posted here. Hope you're all the same friendly, fun bunch you were 10 years ago!

I have a 4.3 Torsen that came with my USDM 98 Turbo NB Miata, in which I swapped to a 6-spd years ago. It's a great diff for Brands - I nearly top out right before Paddock!

I have been dying for a 3.6 Torsen for years and have finally found one but it's really expensive.

Trying to find the value of my 4.3 to offset the cost is impossible. After a bit of digging, it seems they never come up for sale (typical I want the other diff that's hard to find)

Should I keep the 4.3 Torsen if it's that rare? What do folks pay for them?

If it’s that rare I would keep it. Rare parts are starting to get harder to find for sure!

What’s your budget for a 3.6 diff? You able to strip one down?

I have thought about building a 3.6 torsen using a dead fuji and a more 'cost effective' torsen, but it'd be a ball ache and I'd need some proper guidance to not mash the teeth on lash adjustment etc. I was happy to part with 400 quid for a 3.6T but the one that I have been offered is over 500 plus the VAT.

Starting to think I should just get a 120 quid Fuji and hope. The highway is a real headache on 6spd + 4.3

...granted, it's always in boost :)

I think most Fuji diffs in the UK are 3.9 not 3.6 - those are more likely to come from Australia... At least, I think this is the case. Might turn out I have a 3.6 in my '03, but I've never bothered investigating.

I recently bought a 3.6 for £450 and sold the 4.3 it replaced for £380.

Quite a few of the later JDM 1.8s came with 4.3s, so they aren't *that* rare. IIRC later model UK cars also came with 4.3 gearsets, although most of them were open diffs.

The vast majority of 3.6s are Fuji - some of the early ones were supposed to be Torsen but they are harder to track down.

I ended up building a 3.6 Torsen out of a broken Fuji and a Torsen core..

I paid £300 for a 3.6 torsen in February, and missed out on a few that were £350 luckily so they can be had for cheaper, you just need to keep your eye on fb/ebay/etc to snap them up before someone else does!

Ok. This is good to know.

Until recently, I thought all 3.6s were Fuji! Which cars came with the torsen?

Most 3.6s are Fujis - there is apparently a VIN/age range that came with 3.6 Torsens, but I'm not sure it's entirely accurate - a friend of mine I think falls within the range that is 'supposed' to have a 3.6 Torsen, but it's a Fuji..

The only way to be sure is to check..

There's a couple of sellers on miataturbo that ship diffs / engines / etc from the UK to the US - easiest bet would be with them...

Well, it arrived! Finally - after years of half-heartedly waiting for one to land in my lap, one does. Proud owner of a 3.6 Torsen for everyday AND a 4.3 Torsen for Brands.

400 notes, plus courier at 42 quid all in with insurance.

Now I suppose I ought to finish building that engine
