It's been a few years since I have been on here.  Now back with a 2005 MX5 NC 1.8.  Car has been modded by Roddisons Motorsport by the former owner http://www.mx5-racin...-power-upgrade/  and a few other mild mods.

The previous owner (last 8 years) serviced it himself.  He did 3K miles per year on average.  I am not handy with a spanner and I need to know what it needs service-wise. Here's the current status:

PDI                    06.10.05

9,000 miles        05.20.06 (5,101 miles)

18,000 miles      21.09.07 (17,264 miles)

27,000 miles      02.10.08 (29,277 miles)

36,000 miles      05.10.09 (37,278 miles)

45,000 miles      01.10.10 (46,577 miles)

54,000 miles      03.10.10 (56,990 miles)

Oil changed       67,887 miles

Oil changed       73,266 miles

Oil changed       75,512 miles

Oil changed       80,714 miles

Diff. oil               65,207 miles

Gearbox oil        68,630 miles

I got it in Feb.  It was on 84K and still is  as I have not really had the opportunity to drive and then the lockdown put paid to it.  It's going into the garage soon to have a new Cobalt exhaust fitted.  What else should I have done whilst it is in there?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,  the first thing is you don't have to worry about cambelt as the NC has a chain which is supposed to last the lifetime of the car, it looks like the oil changes have been nice & frequent - 3k on a modern oil is nothing but it looks like the previous owner changed it every year regardless which is good. He probably also changed plugs, air & fuel filters whilst he was at it but unless you have proof it's hard to know for sure. If it's been a year since the last oil change then have that done would be my advice. Get them to check how much meat is left on the brakes whilst you're there as well.

I'd give the coolant a check too, might be time for a flush and fresh coolant!
