I think I have the unpopular opinion here but I wasn't super happy with my TR Lane GPV bar. It didn't fit into my MK2 properly and I ended up filing and cutting much more than required to make it fit. A 4(ish) hour job turned into 20.

I also bought the one without the harness bar because I was told that I could fit the stock windblocker, and hence the invaluable storage pouches. It did not fit back in.

A mate also had fitment issues, had to racket the legs together a little for it to fit.
That wouldn't have worked for me unfortunately, the spreader plates were just too long to fit between the ABS sensor wire and the rubber boot for the big mass of wires.

I removed the existing blank grommets as well but they were slightly misaligned with the bolt holes in the bar so I had to file these into slots. The rear legs also sat on top of the grommet for the ABS sensor wire, but ratcheting them forwards would have caused problems with the aforementioned mass of wires (sorry, no idea what they are for). Honestly, I wouldn't be as upset about it if I could get that windblocker back in... ed8295c7399a5686f124e6bff7e2106e.jpgbc3106d66afc1127ea9c165834185f46.jpgbd42ae6dbba44abd1ef23546839c0a01.jpg43df7c0d592f53b01fa2bcadf47bd8ce.jpg

Just seen this. I had the same issue but it's really easy to sort. You just pop the ABS grommet out and move it into the one about 6" further back(?) which has a little rubber blanking grommet on it. Then put this grommet on the underside of the original ABS hole and fit the cage. Easy. None of my cage spreader plates lined up with any existing holes though, or got close, but that might be a mk1/2/2.5 difference.

I don't remember seeing another grommet hole (there was definitely one that I removed closer to the front of the car) behind the one for the ABS sensor. My memory is known for being very wrong sometimes though so it may just be that!

I was thinking about taking it out and drilling a new hole for it, but I couldn't figure out how to disconnect it then thread it through the existing hole. Honestly I was stumped by something as simple as that lol

Gents can someone provide the height between the top of the top bar and the rear deck please on the GC/TR Lane bars?

Only dimensions I can find on mx5 roll bars are for the Hard Dog which state 18inches

I'll have to take back my comment about the windblocker not fitting back in.

I rang up Tim (who btw is always very enthusiastic and eager to help) and he told me to flip the angle brackets as you mentioned. He also said I'd need some self tappers.

I didn't have the patience to drill new holes for the existing bolts so only one bolt is holding the plastic shroud on (tonneau cover one is gone now), and I've used a single self-tapping screw on either side. It's also sat on the parcel shelf so I can use it as a lever point when putting the roof back up from the driver's seat.

It's not secure, I can't flip the other half of the blocker up, but at least my storage pouches are back! :)

Some pictures of wind blocker reverse install with GCR2 roll bar. I didn’t have to drill the holes out and I used the existing bolts. Yes the map pocket is on the wrong side, but I never used that anyway :)

Hopefully these can be seen as not posted pics on here before ????

Ah! I see what you mean by reverse now.

I make full use of the pouches so I think this would bother me. I also use it (folded down) to put my elbow against when putting the roof back up from the driver seat. It involves lifting my whole body up via the dead pedal to reach the interior handle, but I thought everyone did it this way?

I cut some strips of metal and drilled holes in to move the windblocker forwards closer to the seats

I will try to remember to do this in the next few days

Gf's mk1 has a TR Lane bar, but given that he lane and gc fab used hard dog as a heavy influence, it may not be much different from 18 inches

Why do you ask?

Found this in an email from gcFabrications "GC range that is 520 high and 700 from the windscreen pillar to the bar"

Does it help?

Attempting to work out the tallest bar and if I need to do any further work to lower seat height before I order

520mm is approx 20.5inches
20.5 inches to base means it has to mount 3inches below the rear deck to be high enough

I need approx 17.5-18in clearance with my current setup

What is your problem, interference with the ball on top of your body?

It shouldnt be. A roll bar by definition sits behind the driver, not above, so you shouldn't contact it. If you currently clear the roof with a helment and your current seat setup then the rollbar shouldn't reduce this.

I expect the roll bar to taller than the height of my head. I'm not worried about contacting it

It would be ideal if someone had some measurement of their bars height
