A couple of nights ago while driving back home through the forest, a small deer ran out on the road straight onto my headlight/wing and so now my mx5 is sitting in the garage whilst waiting for the insurance company to do an assessment of the damage. Will definitely need a bonnet/bumper/wing and most frustratingly, a mazdaspeed headlight. Can't find one anywhere but I've heard that it's possible to open it up and paint it so it's exactly the same as the oem mazdaspeed darkened version.

Would anyone know how to paint a headlight so it looks the same?

Thanks!

This a mk2? I believe the mazdaspeed headlights are just covers?

Also, I would hold off as I wager the car will be written off for those panels unless you can get them to agree to using used parts. The small amount of damage you see below was calculated at over £3500....

What exactly do you need to paint? The inner plastic is easy, you remove any screws, bulbs and rubber, bake the light in the oven to warm the adhesive then pull the lens off. You can then remove the inside and paint it. I would recommend against tinting the lens if that's what you are asking, but to do it you would just sand the lens to a smooth finish in 2000 grit, then spray a 2k clear coat over it with a small amount of black mixed in.

Jesus, 3500 pounds?  Since I'm in France an this mx5 should be worth more than the repair cost to be honest, I calculated, if using new parts, around around1200 pounds for the body panels and paint, so it should be ok. As for the headlight: Still haven't gotten round to figure out how to upload pictures here but the Mazdaspeed headlight is the same as the mk2.5 headlight except for the interior that is not chromed but dark. Definitely don't want to tint the headlight covers, heard it's possible to just pull the lense off like you said and just paint the inside but was wondering what color exactly it should be done in

I have a Mazdaspeed front lower bumper on my mk2.5 and with the headlights it looks quite good to me, especially in sunlight silver!
