Technologically inept? Want to post pictures on Nutz?
Right, first off - you can't upload to Nutz. Webspace is expensive, we can't afford to host everyone's pics, or expect our hosts to put up with the excessive bandwidth this generates
As mentioned above we don't have the resources to host for you so you will need to host your pictures with another site that allows remote linking.
Popular sites you can use for this include:
In this demo I'm going to be using Tinypic as it is by far the simplest to use and you wouldn't be reading this if you didn't like things kept simple
To begin with here is the Tinypic front page:
Click on the Browse button and select a picture from your files. In the below example I've chosen a .jpg picture file called "g1".
Now, sometimes pictures are enormous especially with the latest cameras producing pictures with high mexapixel sizes. It is good to resize them to a more manageable size suitable for general browsing. I suggest you keep pictures for general display to a maximum width of approx. 1000 pixels.
Click on the resize arrow and choose the appropriate option:
When you're ready hit the big green Upload button:
Next you will be presented with a puzzle to solve as an anti-spam measure. These are usually very simple, in this case it's just typing a word:
Once you have entered the correct answer, hit Upload Now!
You will be taken to a final screen with a variety of links. The one we want is labelled direct link for layouts and is at the bottom:
Select it and press CTRL+C to copy the link.
Come back to Nutz and click on the picture with the little tree..
Now paste CTRL+V the link you copied earlier into the next box...
You could also type out the image tag directly into your post and paste the link in, the tag looks like:
[img=yourpastedlink]Just remember your links have to end with the picture file format such as ".jpg" or ".gif" or ".png"
That's it! Your post should now display your picture
But what about video??
So you've just shot an awesome vid of you being a driving God and want to share it in your post. Well first up you need to host the video footage somewhere, you can use Tinypic for short videos (max 5 minutes and 100MB) but most people will probably choose Youtube.
Once you have uploaded a YouTube vid and have the link to it, you should be able to display it within your posts using the media tag as follows:
[media]yourpastedvideolink[/media]It's also possible to embed a youtube video simply by pasting the link into your post without using any tags, though this can depend on what browser you're using.
If you want to link to a video you have uploaded to Facebook you will need to use the Get Link button to create a public link:
The Forum does not have the ability to remote link to Facebook videos, so there are no tags you can use to embed it inside a post (at present). Simply paste the text link into your post and readers will be able to click it to watch.
This concludes the guide (for now)
