I'm after a set of Kongi Dial In's (grey, 15x8, et25) but cant seem to find anywhere to buy them from. Does anyone have any ideas. Racingbeat offer them for £1000, which is ridiculous, even after accounting for shipping and tax it's very high, especially as they are currently on offer in the states for £400 a set!! . I can't seem to find them in grey from the only two UK distributors Konig list.

AR1s are really heavy tyres, Nankang do list all the weights of their tyres so you can work out how heavy the JR12s were.
Brake clearance is a big point for me, my only development plans for the track car next season are to get it on some 225s and up the brakes to the wilwood midlite kit, so I need a wheel that'll clear them, the konigs seem to do that well, offer a good amount of strength, look pretty track orientated and are light. They are very good value at the US prices, but at £1000, pretty hard to justify in the UK.

Konigs are 5kg each in 15x8 apparently, and for me they are quite a bit lighter than my 7ish kg SA3Rs I currently have. I will also need the brake clearance

Basically by having a normal wheel and slick saves more weight than an expensive lightweight wheel with a heavy wide semislick. If i swap out to Ultralight ul11s 8j et0 and an rs1 slick im saving a few kgs...ive asked the weight of the ul11s...

It's all a trade off, smaller is lighter, but will they clear the brakes? Will slicks in that size give the same grip as 225s? Will it be as easy / cheap to get tyres? Will having slicks limit you being able to use the car at the weekends? Lots to consider really.

225 AR-1s on 8J rims will be nothing special, 205 AR-1's might even be quicker (run quite wide). 205 slicks will be seconds a lap quicker.

Not sure how that works? I know a 225 is quicker on a 9j than an 8j due to how the extra width helps the tyre wall resist flexing more, but can't see why a 205 on an 8 would be faster than a 225? Surely more tyre will also go e more grip. I know some say they prefer having a slightly narrower tyre so the car moves about a bit more but Iv never seen any proof it's faster, just a preference thing. Regardless, vs my current setup of sa3r and ns2r, a 225 ar1 and 15x8 dial in would save just shy of 1.5kg per corner and give me 30mm more tyre in a much gripper compound, and clearance for a better brake setup so I can't really see the downside for me? I can't run slicks as I need the car to be road legal

More weight, more drag, suboptimal use of available contact patch. etc. That and the 205 AR-1 being a 215, so the 8J rim is perfect for it.

Optimal use of contact patch is down to how it's used, ie what I said about 15x8 vs 15x9. If the 225 has more patch it'll generate more grip. I'd also imagine the drag penalty would be very minor and more than offset by the extra cornering speed.More weight, more drag, suboptimal use of available contact patch. etc. That and the 205 AR-1 being a 215, so the 8J rim is perfect for it.Not sure how that works? Optimal use of contact patch is down to how it's used, ie what I said about 15x8 vs 15x9. If the 225 has more patch it'll generate more grip. I'd also imagine the drag penalty would be very minor and more than offset by the extra cornering speed.More weight, more drag, suboptimal use of available contact patch. etc. That and the 205 AR-1 being a 215, so the 8J rim is perfect for it.Not sure how that works? Surely more tyre will also go e more grip.
I was just after info about UK dealers. Sadly the ultralite aren't available in the right offset, but are worth looking into for my celica in future maybe so cheers for that.
Optimal use of the contact patch includes how much weight/ force is put into that area. Bigger isn't always better, if there isn't enough load on the tyre you won't generate any extra grip. On a standard-ish MX5 with no real aero I would think a 225 is definitely overkill and won't generate enough heat to give more grip than a 205.
If you look at mx5's that compete in the 750mc you'll find they only use 205 or 195 tyres and other cars (clios) that are a similar weight in time attack are the same.
I'm going back down to a 195 for sprints/Hill climbs as I don't feel I can get heat into a 205 quick enough to gain any benefit over the extra weight, drag and gearing change.
