Hi everyone,

I found this awesome graphic in one FB group I follow about welders that are into auto body welding but they also do some other car related welding stuff..

 

The graphic is about the women welders and their presence in the trade. https://weldingpros....-fill-the-gaps/ I think that it is really interesting so wanted to share it here.

 

Also I thought of asking.. How often do you see female car mechanics? Or metalworkers in general?

 

The last time I saw a women car mechanic was about 4 or 5 years ago and she was an apprentice to a car mechanic in a garage where I used to frequent at a time. They had a good setup and could easily fix things in a short amount of time. She was a hard worker and I never had any issues with whatever she worked on.

 

What are your experiences like with female car mechanics, welders or metalworkers?

i work in a lot of car dealerships over the last 20+years and see very few woman mechanics saying that my friends sister used to work for him now she works for another garage on exotics

we live in a diverse world, I used to work in the local steelworks also various petrochem plants & refineries, plenty of female staff around

- not just in offices but as engineers & operators with a few 'hands-on' with tools.....

obviously with the current fashon of identity theres plenty of possibilities (but I doubt 'they' would entertain. real work)

Back in the 1970's when my father was spannering there was a lady paint sprayer that used to freelance and she was always brought in to work on colour matching the exotics with metalic paint especialy if the paint had aged a little.

If she is still around she will be a pensioner now.

 

We often have female engineering degree students working with us to earn money during the gap year.

They are not afraid of getting dirty using a set of spanners.

My first wife was an apprentice fitter at a British Leyland main dealer in the 70s, specialising in warranty work on head gaskets on Stags and Dollys. Her small hands were an asset.

Used the same garage/engineering shop for both our 5's for 20 years.

Boss's daughter late 20 something (taught by Dad) is the best mechanic in the place...especially with diagnostics often times not having to plug the car in. Bloody genius.

We ask for her only to work on either of our cars.

My Aunt used to be a welder at a Lancaster bomber factory, she could also roll a fag with one hand....

mate of mine's mum used to build RR's Merlin engines, was sorta fashonable then you see

Well I'm female and a welder/fabricator does that count?

 

Not a mechanic but work in a workshop that does a lot of custom exhaust work (Full Stainless or Titanium Pie-Cuts, none of this slip joint some mandrel bend bulls**t), Engine swaps, cages and fab work on cars.
