Hi guys,

I've been changing the mx5's stem seals over the last couple of days, finally on the last four and I dropped this one in between the two valves, when trying to retrieve this, it was unfortunately pushed in further into a hole.

From looking at pictures of mx5 heads online, I'm unclear is this hole actually does anything at all, originally thought it was the oil return, but appears to just do nothing.

I might have to leave the steam seal in there, there is a huge concern over doing this just wondering if anyone knows the exact location of the oil return holes.

The location is between to valves in the head, it appears with the head off that there is no hole for this to go any further.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Do not leave anything dropped inside the head.

There is always the possibility that the item can cause damage.

Which model and engine do you have ?

Most of the holes in the cam area are for oil drainage back to the sump.

Have you made a hook out of a wire coat hanger to try to remove the wandering seal ?

Are they not (mostly) some sort of neoprene plastic?

I'm thinking as mentioned the wire coathanger, with maybe  blob of Tiger Seal or summat on the end of it..let it set, and...well...good luck.

Beware the imbecile you did not bargain for. Perhaps in a Zafira  at Tesco waiting to self combust.

A long time ago now I admit but when I worked at a Mazda dealer they were steel  with the rubber seal bonded on. If they've changed since I stand corrected and will get my coat!

Compressed air ? Maybe able to get a nozzle deep enough into the hole to blow it out?

You need something hard and sharp with a barb, like a little harpoon

My wife's tongue is available for a reasonable fee.

There is some metal in them, a little wire collar around the top to hold it against the stem and the body has some kind of metal in it as well.
