Hello All!

Management Summary:
Niels, 22, automotive engineer, blue MX5 NA, BBS, racecar to be?.

Longer introduction:

The name is Niels, 22 years old and living in the Netherlands.
I am finishing my Automotive Engineering study, specialised in automotive services, at the moment in an internship at a company developing electrical direct drive systems for light truck and bus applications. Graduation is planned for Jan.2013 :)

Brief Car history:
- Lots of boring stuff..
- A few MGB GT wrecks, as daily-drivers, funcars. Mostly rotten away..
- Ford Sierra Racecar, fully prepared: Cage, seats, slicks.
- Daddy's cars; MGB V8 roadster rally/trackdaycar, Landrover S2A, Riley Prewar racer.
- MGB GT in restoration: (finally) coming to an end now.. great time-consumer :)

Followed a racecourse at the Assen TT Circuit in Holland in November last year, became second best of the group and got my EU-license.

And then there was an MX5..

What can I say about it.. It's great. Fell in love after the first meters.. 150K km's on the tacho, not to much rust, runs really great.

My plan for the car is:
1. Enjoy as much as possible..
2. Create trackdaycar for this summer.
3. Create Racecar for next season, and race in the MaX5 cup.
Step 1 is going well, step 2 & 3 will need some time and money spended.
Action List:
- Decat: Just done that, welded a straight stainless pipe, sounds a bit raw now but that's ok for me.
- Fit Bucket seats: Searching for some decent ones. Thinking of Sparco Pro2000, might know someone who has them. Other good options for a reasonable price?
- Fit 6-point harnesses
- Rollbar building: Has to fit with softtop, bolt-in. Will get some CDS tubing and start bending in the next weeks..
- Semislick tires&Wheels: will go for Toyo R1R's on TD Pro Race2 as that is used in the Max5 cup.
- Suspension, GAZ Gold pro for the same reason as above.
- Build a cage, if possible. Will be trail and error, I think. Never done such thing before but how hard could it be? (bit of an understatement..)
- Engine rebuild: Not really needed but there might be a few hidden horsepowers in there. On the list of winter projects..
- Few minor mods..

^^^^^^^^^^
Think that was complete enough for an introduction? If not, just scream loudly!

Regards,

Niels

Haha it is quite flat indeed.. I have to drive up and down the dyke to get some height difference :)
But there are a few hills in holland, it's not totally pancake-flat!

Thanks!

Well.. Have been very busy last months.. Unfortunately not with my own cars.

But there is some progression on the MX5, i have done a steering rack modification: Depowered it and welded the torsion bar solid.

Hi Niels, I'm also Niels! Although I'm more than twice your age, I haven't driven half as many interesting cars as you. Enjoy your MX5!

Thanks guys.

About the cars i've had, i used to have one running car, one short-term project and one long-term project :) I bought a car, mostly without MOT or with a bit of work, repaired it and the drove it for a while. Then buy another car, repair it and sell the first, or something like that. And if you search well, there are a lot of nice cars out there for small amounts of money.

Oh, maybe more important for this forum: Today i've been to the Zandvoort Circuit, the MaX5 Cup (similar to Ma5da) raced there. Watched the races and had a quick chat with some of the drivers. So, I have to find some time this winter and prepare the car for next season :) Look forward to drive with them.
