So, that was a long time ago..
Last weak i was doing a big update on my MX5..
I made Low profile headlights by myself...

Buying new ones was to expensive for me so i made it myself.

First i had to find out how to make the lights going open less far...
That was no problem.. i shortened the bars in the headlight units and bend the pivots from the headlight motors.

I bought 2 headlights from a company in germany for under the 100 euro's...

This is the result :)
It not finished yet, i have to made something to make the side nice !

They do look great indeed! The angle is just perfect. Maybe you can use the OEM plastic frames and fuse them with some 323F BG frames (plastic welding and 2k plastic glue) to create a good fitting frame (which is usually lacking with low profiles, redering the side view awful...

Because i'm on holiday at this moment, i have to post this from my Iphone..
I promes you to post a little story about how to make these low profiles.
And it is much easyer than it looks like..
Hopefully you can understand my bad English...

First i post the link for the light units, but if you want to order then, be aware of the side of driving..
You guys drive on the left side do you ?
Then you have to look for the LHD units....

More to come in the weekend.. :)

I very interested in how you managed to do this as I want to make Summat very similar but using twin headlights 1 being high beam and 1 low beam.

Loving the new Lights.. I think there are several on here who would love a full "how to"..

could you modify the "cowls" from ford probe headlights? Just a thought.. (I have no idea if they will fit.. however I have considered buying a pair to try and do the same kind of thing..)

Because of the reaction i have had on this topic, i tried to tell you how i did the job.
First i want to appologise about my english.. I'm better in Dutch.. :)

So, first i bought me a pair of headlight units from Hella.
I choose for the Hella units because of the road legal units...
In the Netherlands the car have to bring in once a year for an inspection..
So if the light beam isn't within the dutch rules, i may not drive the car anymore...
So i had to be sure i bought the right units..

Please be carefull when you order a couple of units, if you drive on the left side of the road you have to choose the units for left driving trafic.

Posted Image

Posted Image

After that i took o ut the headlight units.. Loosen the pushrod and the 2 bolds that holds the part were the round units are in.
So take out the round units...

Now you have to make a simple construction were you can bolt your new pair of units on.
I used a strip of aluminium.
That will look like this :

Posted Image

The angle of the front site of the construction has to be about 30 degrees..
This is the tricky part, because it can be 35 or maybe 27 degrees.. You have to try..
It's a little easier to try when the units are build into the car...

Posted Image

Before you can build them back into the car you have to shorten the pushrods..
I shortened them by 1.5 cm..

Posted Image

Then the most difficult part is about to come.
You have to shorten the pivots without damaging them.

Shorten them a full cm, beter 1.5 cm.....
On the picture i only shorten them a cm, but i bend it a little further...

Normal size..
Posted Image

The shortened pivots :
Posted Image

Now you can build in the headlights back into the car..
You wil see they wil open a lot less... But enough for the new units...

Do not forget to make the 'stops' a little longer, because otherwise the units will shake a lot....

Posted Image
Posted Image

If you bolt the new units onto your selfmade construction, please look if they are on the right level... How you call in in English, waterlevel ?
If they are not, the car wil look like a sad person.. :)

So far so good... Now i have to think about the sides... But i already have an idea how to do that...
To be continued....

So please if you do have a question please feel free to ask..

Ford Probe units are much higher..
So you do not have the low profile look with it.. :(

not so low profile as the lights you have but they are lower than the round mx5 lights which is what i'm after. ;)
