Not 100% sure which sub forum this is meant to be in, but I'm giving this one a try.

I?ve got a mk2 1.8is MX5, does anyone know where the ODB2 port will be on my car?

There?s a grey diagnostic port in the engine bay on the passenger side, but I don?t think its ODB2.

I?ve looked under the dash, on both the passenger and drivers side, but can?t seem to find it.

To the right of the steering wheel, in front of your bonnet release there is a removable fuse cover. Nearest to you (front edge) is where the OBDII connector would reside.

Short of being upside down laid on your back with your legs outside of the car in a semi crab position, you'd never see it..

Thanks for putting in the right sub forum.

It?s a 1998 car. It?s definitely not got one by the fuse box, just double checked.

It funny you should say that, as that?s describes exactly how I was looking for it yesterday.

So if it doesn?t have ODBII, does it have ODBI or is it something else?

Mk2s don't have OBDII.

You sure about that?

We went through this a few months back when I was looking for how to read diagnostics on our Mk2 ('99). You use the 'flashing LED' method to check error codes, same as the Mk1. US models have OBDII and have since late Mk1.

This seems as good as any post to bump and keep info in one thread.

Is the diag box layout the same on mk2s?

Just picked up a 1.6. ?575, Brilliant black, leather seats and a few other bits and bobs.

Non-starter, classic crankshaft sensor symptoms, but we'll just confirm it first as it's got a rats nest of an alarm/window closing/central locking etc. nightmare behind teh dash.

My '99 model did, perhaps only the very early Mk2 didn't?
