Since buying a mk2 my mk1 Racing Beat single exit exhaust is now for sale. It was fitted on my 1.8 but not sure if it'll fit 1.6's - anyone know?

Anyway, the backbox is about 12months old, bought from Mx5mad.com and probably done about 10,000miles. I got the silenced midpipe 2nd hand from jon on here so it probably more like 2 years old. They're both in excellent condition with no dents, welds all still fine, no loose baffles, etc. I think I paid about £270 for the backbox and another £80 for the midpipe so it owes me about £350.

I'll set them both together for £200 but collection only as they'd be a pain to post. If you're anywhere near Leyland, Lancashire I could possibly meet you halfway depending on where you're coming from as long as it's not too far.

£200 Is a firm price though as they're worth at least that.

Tempting I must admit, my standard exhaust sounds pretty horid. What does the racing beat one sound like, and will it work with a 350mm cat?

Sounds lubbly :) Fairly deep mellow tone, not raspy at all. Not too loud either; I used to do 60miles a day on the motorway with it on and it was fine, sounds great at the other end when it's all warmed up properly.

It's probably a bit like a Larini system but deeper/more mellow, it's not a chavy exhaust.

Not sure if it'll work with a 350mm cat as I think it was designed to mate up to the larger 430m cat. You could try either fitting a 430mm cat or a 1.8 manifold but then you're spending too much money I guess?

IMO Racing Beat make the best exhausts for mx5's, more fine details on them than Flyin Miata and quiter/less obtrusive than Jackson Racing?

I'd be interested in your mid pipe, if you want to split the package :)

What cat size is yours? I assume 430mm? Mine is a 1.8 Eunos 1995 but has a 350mm cat. Unless I could use an alternative mid pipe for use with a shorter cat?

I live just outside Leyland, south of Preston but work in Manchester and could meet people locally if it's more convenient ;).

I'll try and look into postage costs but I think it would be quite a lot and I'd have to find a proper courier firm as Royal Mail/Parcel Force would probably say it's too big to post with them...

Yeah mine's a 430mm CAT. I'm not sure if the midpipe is shorter on yours or if the manifold has slightly longer downpipes, I would guess that you're right and it's the midpipe that's a bit longer to compensate for your shorter cat. You could buy one of those adapters from mx5parts for £25 which goes between the manifold and CAT and it should be ok?

Please note: If your car is a Eunos Roadster with the short cat (370mm) you will need an adaptor between the manifold and the cat. This is available separately and needs to be ordered by telephone (part number SI257/1 £25.00).

Cheers,

- Guy

Cat lengths are hard to measure exactly because the flanges are set at odd angles, but conventionally around here you'll find people refer to the short one as 370mm and the mid-sized one as 440mm. The 370mm is fitted to all Mk.1 Roadsters and the 440mm is fitted to Mk.1 UK 1.8's except for '97-'98 which have an even longer cat (475mm).

The good news is that all cars with a 370mm or 440mm cat have interchangeable exhausts from the cat back. The different lengths/flanges only affect the pipework in front of the cat.

Hope that helps remove confusion.

Yes, sorry - my cat is a 370mm cat! I think the slightly angled flanges make it look a little less though. Thanks for your post, it sounds like this setup would work on my car then! If so.. yes please! :D I guess we could confirm this with a length measurement of the silenced mid pipe?

Yeah rceived your pm, sorry I haven't replied. Been a bit busy today but I'll try and measure the length of the midpipe and get back to you.

Forgot to say dixon has 1st dibs as he pm'd me first and has offered me the asking price plus postage, just need to try and get a courier firm that will send this down South without charging an arm and leg, thought I might try Parcel2go.com as they seem ok?

Cheers guys,

Cheers guys,

ParcelForce only charged me 20 quid for an exhaust, they're never usually that outrageous :)
