Planetmotorsports will be fitting a GP bar with diagonal and harness bar to the Hornet.
If anyone wants to come and have a poke around, see how difficult (or not) it is to fit a bar, you're more than welcome.

Then, you'll have what many feel to be the perfect design, make up a jig, and start bashing them out left right and centre. If you do that, you've cleaned up the UK market.
Please, anything to stop this thread carrying on any longer than it needs to

Does anyone around Bracknell/Reading have a TD bar that I can compare to mine in terms of overall height, and fore-aft positioning? Or does anyone know the answers to my comparison questions?
Thanks

The softop allows for more clearance than a hardtop, so if you never plan to use a hardtop you could get TR Lane to custom make the bar a bit higher up. When we designed my bar, it had to be about an inch shorter to clear the hardtop than softtop.
I'm 5'11" and run sparco FIA approved buckets which are at least a couple of inches 'lower' than the stock seats - I can get the MSA level of head clearance (20cm) only just.
If you are concerned about whiplash, a FIA spec fixed-back bucket would be the way to go - gets you lower down than the stock seat and they will deform less in an impact than a standard road seat. if you get steal framed 'low entry' ones they are very comfortable (in fact I found them a lot more comfortable long-distance then the stock seats).
Mine is mounted differently to the newer designs (my is mounted in-line with the seatbelt towers, the new designs sit closer to the driver and are mounted to the rear firewall), So my bar is further away from my head than the newer TR Lane bars and the hard-dog ones.
The MX5 is very tight for rollbar clearances (hence race cars can't even run with any kind of roof and still meet MSA specs, unless you managed to mount the seat right on the floor and aren't too tall!)
If you are worried about the clearances and want to retain the stock seats, I'd recommend going to see tim and he can measure you in the car and look at possible configurations.

Moving the pedal box is another option, of course, but I've not seem much discussion of that when searching around the archives so assume there's a fundamental problem with bulkhead clearances.
I'll report back in a few hours.

Having sat on the floor of the car with no seat in place, I think I'm going to have another go at lowering the standard seat. I think I've removing all the foam I dare and am now being supported more by fabric and wire tension.
