Has anyone come across one of these before?

ebay link

I believe that they have only just designed this roll bar (T.R.Lane fabrications) and they apparently do roll bars/cages specializing in Tvr's and Mazda's.

Could be a cheap alternative for a Harddog??
Obviously i know that it is untested in it ability to be a semi cage (at the most!- more likely a slightly stronger style bar) as no-one has tested it yet is there anyone on here with any PROPER experience (and their strengthening properties) with roll bars that may be able to enlighten me/ others on its capabilities?
No doubt some may just slate this even though they have no experience or are fan boys of their own roll bars...

Shame someone with a bit more mx5 know-how can't get together with them, as they seem to be priced competitively.

hello folk regarding all comments TR LANE will be soon joing forces with moss to creat fia approved cages its all in the pipe line, my new 5 will be the first demo car to have a full race spec cage fitted for the company i was going to have one fitted anyway then persuaded the company to broker a deal with tr lane and its all just down to shakeing hands and agreeing the deal

How do you gain FIA approval ? does the manufacturer have to be approved ?

there TVR efforts seem a bit more structural but they have no pictures of full cages on their website etc

Well, it appears that mixie 5 is talking about a full cage as opposed to a rollbar, which is unfortunately a slightly different kettle of fish. Especially if we're talking about an FIA-approved cage.

That said, I have to agree with those posters who pointed out that this rollbar doesn't look like it's attaching to anything substantial - have a look at the way a harddog is mounted for comparison...

So they'll start by doubling their prices to bring them into line with Moss prices?

Very similar to the mazdaspeed one.
Which also "looks" like a roll bar but is only bolted at the rear to the flimsy sheet steel shelf.
I left mine on cos it holds the back of the car together Like a huge brace bar.

have we missed something?
from their recently updated ebay auction:

Quote

THIS ROLL BAR HAS SIX FIXING POINTS - 2 ON SEAT BELT TOWERS USING
6MM PLATE AND 6MM STRENGTHENING GUSSET, 2 LOCATED BEHIND SEATS,
2 REAR STAY BRACKETS (NOT MOUNTED TO FLIMSY PARCEL SHELF), BUT
ARE BOLTED DIRECTLY TO THE MAIN BODY TO THE LEFT AND TO THE RIGHT
OF PARCEL SHELF. PLEASE SEE ADVERTISED PICTURES FOR MORE
DETAIL ON MOUNTING POSITIONS.

any idea where it mounts to?

from the pictures that looks no safer than a style bar, it would need to go through the parcel shelf and be attached to the body of the car
