We have been involved in tuning MX5's for over ten years now and we are probably reasonably well known for our NA performance upgrades on the Mk1 MX5.

As a company we specialise in suspension and engine tuning and we have now owned our own Mk3.5 NC for over a year. During this time we have been working very hard behind the scenes to develop tuning packages for the Mk3 and we feel now is the right time to build a demonstrator 'showing off' the very best we can offer in suspension/braking and engine tuning. We will not just select the parts on price alone - each upgrade has to offer good value for money in terms of the performance differential they achieve over what came as standard from Mazda.

During this build thread we will extensively photograph every part fitted to the car, why that part was chosen and the actual fitting of the part itself. The thread will include damper dyno plots of the suspension fitted and engine dyno plots of the power upgrades. (North of 200hp)

Being involved in racing these cars the modifications must be well suited to road and track work and at the 'final launch' (Hopefully spring this year) prospective customers will be able to attend at a track day and be driven round the circuit by a top BRSCC Race driver.

We want to engage the community with this documented build and hopefully answer questions that arise in respect to the parts chosen.

We hope you enjoy the ride with us!

Thanks for the interest everyone!

We have already decided which power option we are going to take but there will be more (a lot more) on that when we come to it!

This is a very rough matrix that we considered when picking the options:

TuningChoices_zps05feab7a.jpg

But for now we need to get the suspension in order to cope with the Road & Track work, We have supplied/fitted and driven numerous of the below (Ok -not the Penske!) here are the options:

(1) Eibach Lowering Springs - Eibach springs are some of the best springs in the world.

(2) Gaz Gold Pro - we know this suspension well and is used on our Supercup Race Cars

(3) Meister R - Good value for money.

(4) Ohlins - we are also a supplier of these dampers and they are impressive but expensive

(5) Penske - unbelievably good but cost a fortune!

.............stay tuned as they say!

Hi Sam,

Much as the Eibach lowering spring kit & Bilstein dampers gets 'slated' we actually agree with you - on track, a car with Eibach springs and RX ARB's was every bit as quick as a car with Gaz or Meister suspension (tested by ourselves and Rob Boston) - it is a good upgrade in our opinion and if the car was a dedicated track car it would certainly win on the Value for money stakes.

...........but we have to take into account road manners as well - What we will say the combo is being seriously considered!

I must admit on the road its not perfect but to be honest its not terrible, still a nice drive in my opinion, however in 18 months i have only done 4600 miles, that includes two track days and aot of dyno time haha, so i dont spend alot of time on the road in the car, still its a better set up than lets say the v-maxx coilovers on the mk3 than make a cats eye feel like a mountain lol.

The biggest problem I found when I had 'just' springs and uprated ARBs on my car (with the bilsteins) was only really at the rear where it felt a bit bouncy like it was running out of damper travel, this was only apparent on really rough roads, laterally it would corner pretty flat though and I can well see on a very smooth and flat track with few elevation changes how it'd feel good.  It didn't deal with dive under breaking or squat under acceleration as well as it does with the Meisters though.

Would love to try a car with the matched Konis and springs, plus Ohlins, curiousity really as don't have the £££ to change suspension yet again, but I figure there are some excellent options out there that haven't been discussed much or used by many on here :)

I took our bbr's turbo car with cast manifold today as did rich196.. Their koni/spring set up is fantastic tbh.... But on turbo power levels it is needed... At 180-200hp i dont think they are needed.... Very good though lol
