Just a quick question as to the thoughts and general concensus of the addition of fast road cams and what if any difference they would make to my car? Lad I know reckons fast road cams and possibly twin carbs are the way for me to go..? Of course staying NA for now with the poss of FI in the future.

I just humour him most of the time as hes a bit of a petrol head but it got me to thinking ;)

Advice and or suggestions welcome :D

Thx,

Greg

Twin carbs have their uses but 9 times out of 10 you are going to get better results with fuel injection. There are some examples on this site on when this isn't the case but for the most part its true.

Cleopatra has HKS cams on her car; I think the MX5 standard cams are pretty good already and any gains are likely to be minimal.

I hate to be a sheep but if you want power you want forced induction, and I say this as someone who has spent a lot of time and effort getting his Normally Aspirated engine to chuck out anything more than a damp fart.

Go for standalone ECU and throttle bodies then make a inlet for the throttle bodies when you go turbo and then you will have better throttle response , possibly more power and FI.

Yep, I get a bit of a kick from the cams around 4.5k but they don't actually add any power, just move the torque about. This does improve the acceleration though :) Once we fitted the super charger any gains not noticable. Mine was FI on a budget and for a total of 1300 fitted and tuned I had a nice 160 bhp so I would save for FI really :)

It was second hand indeed, but from Rockdoc and had been serviced by TDR if I remember and he knew from the previous owner the milage etc. Just don't go buying any old thing and take your time choosing :)

I bought it with an AFPR as standard, Jonlawes fitted it for me one saturday and we retarded the timing to make it safe. About a month later I got hold of an EMB second hand for 150 and paid 150 to get it fitted and tuned :) Job done :)

I don't think it's complicated if you do lots of research first and make sure you understand what your buying and where you want to end up with it :) You have a mk2 iirc? so it may not be so cheap.... I am not sure.

 for not reading your sig!

And yes, Linda has now solved your abbreviation problem :) Second hand kits pop up a fair bit.... as with anything you can buy second hand and then get it refurb / checked over etc :)
