Hello everyone. Got one annoying issue with my car but I don't know if it's normal. Basicaly at high rpm you can smell burning oil. Never happens at low rpm cruising. I noticed their was a oil stain below the exhaust mani.

I checked my oil was dead on half two days and 200-300 km later and it's dropped to just below half say 2mm on the dipstick.
No blue smoke at all.
The Cas got changed and it's obvious their is a lot of oil build up at the back from Cas leaking
Any advice would be great

New CAS seal not seated properly or rocker cover gasket leaking.
Replace rocker cover gasket - buy genuine from mx5parts or similar, not ebay shite that wont fit properly.
Should take no longer than an hour to fit.

These engine are pretty bullet proof. This was one of the reasons I bought my 5! Because of this, complete engines dont cost much, and thats the way I always looked at the worst case engine failure scenario. Not saying that you need to swap your engine, but the "worst case" with these cars is never too expensive.

Ive always been in to my Nissans and Hondas in the past, and a £200 replacement Mazda engine is much more acceptable than £1500+ for Honda B18 engines and Nissan SR motors :)

Very good point was looking on eBay and poeple pretty much giving away the engines they go so cheap. I think my engine is fine just from old gaskets leaking and stuff I'll sort it out in time run sweet so not going to panic

Any soot on the tailpipe and rear bumper above the tailpipe?

can i ask why u wondered if it was black on the exhaust? is it running rich? :S... im very stupid with mechanics and am not sure if it would be related :S

Sounds like a piston ring or valve stem seal maybe kaput.

I was being paranoid I only ever got one tiny puff of smoke. I did not realise you had to spin the dipstick to get an Accurate reading my oil is dead on half. The burning oil smell was actually the cas ring got changed it was old oil burning off at high temps. Cars done 78k.

Top end rebuild is not big deal would not hesitate to do it in a weekend. But all is well bumper oil free ect thanks for advice everyone.

Cool.
(BTW bumper 'black' is usually rich running/fuel rather than burnt oil.)

Not necessarily. Why do you think diesels are referred to as "soot chuckers"? (Hint - diesel fuel is an oil).

Yeah I have this on my 1.6. Also idle revs seem to have a mind of there own from time to time, was womdering if a faulty MAF might cause this?
