I've recently washed, clayed, polished and waxed my Mk2 (5 hours worth!) however didn't know what to use to clean the vinyl roof and make it black again.

Any ideas?

I use autoglym rubber\vinyl care spray (yellow) and it makes it shiny and black for a long time! :)

Thats what I use too.. Makes water run off pretty well too. Only thing is don't put it on if you haven't got atleast 1-2 dry days, or a garage.. If it rains after you've applied it, it runs all down the windows and looks terrible.

I've recently found that Silicon spray is by far the best product on vinyl hoods and all black trim (interior and ex). And before you all start having a go.. it's what most of these cleaners are based on.. cheaper than most and seriously effective.

20 y/o door to glass weather strips look better than new ones with some silicon spray.. roof looks as new and water falls right off. Interior parts turn black again and the effects last a long time.

Dont put it near your paint though (especially if you plan on having anything painted soon)

I used diluted all purpose cleaner to remove all the ingrained dirt from my 5. It had beed stood for 2 years. Then i treated it with 303 aerospace protectant. This is awesome stuff!! restored the colour and prevents fading thanks to its UV filters. I use it after every wash. I have to say that everyone asks if i have had a new roof fitted!!

Your right, they are present in most cleaners and do a great short term job.

The trouble i find with them is that they sit on the surface of the trim and after heavy rainfall always streak. You need a quality trim treatment to feed the plastic/vinyl so it re hydrates the pigment.

not trying to correct you by the way ;)

To be honest i need re-educating on car cleaning.. something ive never cared for myself much, but the silicon spray really is an epic cleaner... and really crap to paint over ;)

The autoglym is great! It works like Rain-X does on a windscreen. With it being silicone based its applied and buffed with a lint free cloth.

Also cleans as well ;)

The Gtechniq smart fabric is great stuff, I have some myself, however it'll be no good for a vinyl roof. The clue is in the name, it's for fabric, not vinyl. If you've got a mohair roof then it would work great.

For my vinyl roof I use the Autoglym stuff mentioned above, it really does a great job.

I'm curious about what to use on a tan vinyl roof as well.

If anyone can help that would be great.
