Hey all. I have my little red Eunos Maz. Not had her very long but slowly getting there with mods. However I'm a little stuck.......
I am trying to remove the slim cubby box inside the car to fit a double. The box is small and impractical and leaves a gap of around 20mm between it and the stereo. It looks awful and I keep loosing things down the gap. It sees to be screwed in from behind but I have no idea how to get in behind to the possible screws. Do I need to take all the interior apart to get to the back?
All help gratefully received!!
Thanks.

Yeah the cubby is screwed in from behind. You need to remove both parts of the centre console to get to them.

No worries, help is what we are all here for at the end of the day.

There are 4 screws in the middle section that runs between the seats. 1 either side near the gear lever, 1 under the ash tray and 1 in the arm rest storage compartment. That will then lift out of the way. You've then got another screw at the bottom of the panel just under the said cubby box and two behind the air vents, that panel will then be able to be removed, just make sure to disconnect any wires that may need to be disconnected (electric window switch, hazards/popup etc).

Hope that is of some help to you.

Hi Heidi, I fitted a double din stereo about 2 months ago. To get the chubby out i had to take the two middle air vents out (twist and pull) but can take some twisting, behind them are two screws to remove one in each vent. You will then need to remove the black plastic arm rest and ash tray (sun glasser holder) between the seats one screw in the arm rest (rear cubby) one under the ash tray and then two at the front either side just in front of the gear stick. You might have to remove the gear knob but that justs twists off. Once the screws are removed lift the black plastic bit that surround the gear stick up and over to the side you should then be able to remove the center console plastic trim to get to the screws to remove the cubby. Just be aware the the double dim dont fit spot on and your left with a gap, i put mine to the bottom you wont really see it,hope this helps

Amazing help. Thanks very much guys!!. I will get a bigger box ordered up and have a go at this now I know where to look. I am guessing as the gap is just under 20mm I will need a double box? Does this need to be make and model specific? Any other car cubby boxes fit?
Thanks very much!

Thanks for asking, Heidi. I've just got same car, same colour and didn't like to ask!
While your centre console is off you can change the gearlever gaiter if it is worn. Thirty seconds once if you are in there anyway!

http://www.ebay.co.u...#ht_1010wt_1059

or much cheaper in plain black. The handbrake gaiter just drags over the top of the existing plastic one (ten minutes struggle for that one but both fit well).

There is a big MX5 trade in BMW E36 cubbies with built in clocks, so I suppose other DIN cubbies should fit.

I have been told that cubby boxes are universal but after a recent trip to the local breakers yard with a screwdriver it would seem they are not all the same size. I was advised to buy from eBay but not sure which one to go for incase I have the same problem of it not fitting again.
Luckily I don't need to replace the handbrake or gear stick gaiter as they have been replaced already for red ones (thank goodness)

The hole is 2.5 DIN, so you need a 1.5 DIN cubby like this one

I've got one I bought for mine, absolutely brand new, never fitted, but I ended up sticking with my double din headunit.

Yours for £17 posted if you're interested

Thanks again for helping out!
Indykid I will get back to you on that asap! thank you its very kind.
