I'm looking at a Tr lane roll bar, I was wondering what's the difference between the td roll bar and the gp roll bar? I know there is a design difference but why?
And which one is better gp or td?

I've been sniffing about with roll bars too. Here's what I can gather so far (feel free to jump in and correct any errors!)
GP = General purpose, works ok with all roof options, TD = Track day, works fine with all soft tops but won't allow the use of side catches when a hard top is being used. This is because it is wider than the GP and also slightly taller.
I believe they also mount slightly differently too but thats one for the folks that have fitted them to confirm.

T.R.L stuff seems to be a bit marmite on here, which is why I'm still unsure myself also - although in the time I've been sat on the fence, prices have gone right up!

Cheers dude, yes iv also been sat on the fence and prices have sky rocketed. Me personally I prefer tr lane products. I like there designs of the bars. It was just to which one was better to buy, but after what you've said it sounds like the gp roll bar is the one for me. As im not doing track days or have a hard top. Am I right in thinking that in able to use the soft top up and down with a glass screen in?

If you are not doing track days, then do you really need a roll bar? Do you drive hard enough day to day that you may roll the car?

They stiffen the chassis too.

The TD allows the seat to further back and is a four point fixing bar. The GP is a six point fixing bar as it fixes to the seat belt towers.

I have the GP D and I'm quite pleased with it :)

The TD bars are wider and very similar to Hard Dog bars in the way they mount. The GP bar does have 2 more mount points but I think the TD mount points are sturdier.

Both will stiffen the car to a degree but I went with the TD bar for mine.

I'm not sure if it's still the case, but I noticed that you can get TR Lane bars about £25 cheaper at Moss than TR Lane themselves.
Moss also occasionally have sales, so keep an eye out.

I have a GPD plus harness bar and it was definitely worth fitting. It stiffened the car up nicely.

It will be up for sale after my MOT runs out in September.

MX5 Heaven have the GPD at £225+VAT (£270). - TRL have them priced at £300. I don't know how p&p affects the difference though.

Wow those prices have gone up!! When they were first doing them, they were under £200 and thats only just over a year ago!! At that money I'd get a 2nd hand Hard Dog (or a Carbing / Safety 21 for that matter) over a new TR Lane.

I bought a GP D through MOSS just last night and got 14% off using a deal they had on. I too thought they used to be a lot cheaper, but thought it was just my memory failing!

Still if you need on you need one, and I'm not much good at waiting for things to come up second hand :)
