From the OC:

Massive, proper massive hailstone storm, tracking from Coventry, just hit my village, Queniborough in Leicestershire (LE7), so not sure where next. Sky darkened, and I had about 2 minutes warning. Managed to get the MX5 and the Focus CC tucked away in time, but no space at the inn, the Alfa had to stay on the drive. Every panel is now dinged.

If you see the storm coming, get your car under cover.

Seen it in the States like that, never here. So far counted 26 dents on the bonnet, wings, roof, rear hatch and the tops of the doors. Christ knows how much that will be to fix. And the insurance is due on the Alfa in 2 weeks time.

Oh, and strangely the storm has caused a brake light to go on the fritz.

I hadn't seen them come down before with such energy; the ones hitting the back patio were pulverizing into powder. The ones on the back lawn were, entertainingly, bouncing back up 6-7 feet.

Saw this sort of stuff in Melbourne a few years back. Sorry about the Alfa of course..but thank God you were not driving at the time...I suppose :(
It was not quite as bad as this, but it still broke windows in a nearby car showroom & so on.

i work for an insurance approved contractor that covers the leicester area, we normally accept 30 claims a month from them, we took 20 in an hour and ahalf this afternoon, all centered around hinckley, burbage etc, mainly conservatory roofs, car ports and apparantly their was a tornado as well which has taken the main roof off a house we have got to go and survey over the weekend. one of the clients i spoke to had just returned home after getting a call from his daughter to say his missus car had been written off by the hailstorm!!!! must have been a bad one.

We had a hail storm a few years ago, they were literally like golf balls totally trashed the roof and bonnet on my 4x4. I was amazed at the damage .

When I lived in Italy my car insurance covered me for hail damage, living near the mountains I saw these kind of storms a couple of times and several cars with golf ball sized dents on them. You should see the damage they do to aircraft if you fly through them.

Guys

Just posted this elsewhere - http://www.mx5nutz.c...howtopic=100401
unaware of this thread.

I was in Europe at the time, and no one else home otherwise it would be three cars damaged.
