Nice work. Shame about the use of oil but I'm sure you will fix it

Been a bit busy for a while.......had the whole engine right down , blasted the cases and barrel , put in new rings (into a fresh early block , just re-shaped the fins to match the EFE block)

IMAG0171_zps8ixb1ojb.jpg

I've had the head blasted , re-cut all 16 valve seats (proper three angle , along with cleaning and lapping in all the valves....)

IMAG0190_zpsv6vejmwx.jpg

IMAG0197_zpshdygmuvb.jpg

All the outer covers were polished - so I blasted and re- painted then back to the stock satin black finish

IMAG0196_zps3q1xnwam.jpg

And finally........my first ever attempt at wrinkle finish paint on the cam cover - dead pleased how this has come out

IMAG0194_zpshpdecb0z.jpg

If all goes to plan (does it ever.......? ) I'm hoping to have the head finished , and all back together over the coming weekend......and see if it will still run

Well the engine went together without any drama - so the carbs and airbox went on , along with a bit of wiring....

IMAG0200_zps3tzpeic8.jpg

I picked up a second-hand stainless exhaust with was looking a bit sad , so a session of metal polishing was needed !

IMAG0205_zps0ncay5ga.jpg

IMAG0206_zpsprxheaue.jpg

Then on with the coils and plugs........drop the tank on and hook up the hoses.......press the button......and it started instantly ! If the weather had been a bit kinder today I would have been out for a test run........oh well , maybe tomorrow .

Hi Claire there's a guy I know who runs a business called grumpy 1260 spares who specialises in suzukis, who would probably be able to help on parts and what will fit easily!
You should bring it along to one of the classic bike track days, don't have to go around the track as the weekend atmosphere is great with bands etc.
I'm in bike trade so if I can assist at all please ask.
Cheers Mark.

Small update......still loving my bike , done about 5000 miles so far this year , and I've just about got the hang of chucking it around - so much that I had to get a new front tyre as I'd scrubbed the sides off it !

A few more changes - picked up a good cheap pair of fork legs so no more leaking seals , upgraded the reg/rec to a Mosfet type along with a new sealed gell battery so no more flat batteries , and swapped the home made (not by me....) shorty rear mudguard/number plate bracket for a stock one , along with stock number plate light and new stock indicators.....

Just sorting my camping gear out now , heading off towards the Alps next week

Well I made it to the mountains , and to put it simply - it was epic ! Speedo cable snapped just a few miles into the journey , so the total miles is a bit of a guess , but it had to be between 3500 and 4000 miles - I was filling up 2 or 3 times a day , and just going wherever I could find a mountain pass.......

Only real fail was rear wheel bearing coming down a pass from Switzerland to Italy - the resultant megga wobble had me all over the road mid hairpin , luckily oncoming traffic was light....... That got me a weekend in a nice hotel in Italy , the bike being fixed Monday morning (first time I ever splashed out on full european recovery....! )

Would I do it again ? Wadda you think ?

How to make an EFE look small......

IMAG0329_zpseilmwxig.jpg

Oh those roads .......

IMAG0332_zpsujfequir.jpg

A very nice man with a van !

IMAG0347_zpss8uylk6b.jpg

And this is what its all about - just look at that view !

IMAG0350_zpsmdrxh6fb.jpg

Picked up a few stickers.....much more fun than Pokémon go !

Random lunch stop in France

IMAG0356_zpsjs1eicer.jpg

Pit stop for a new rear tyre - kinda killed the old one in the mountains

IMAG0365_zps3bm7msfi.jpg

Hooked up with a cool Belgian / Japanese guy for the last couple of days through France - brand new Vstrom 1000 , nice bike but £13000 ? ? ?

Cant wait to go back and do it all again - bike performed faultlessly apart from the bearing , I took just about the right kit , and managed to get to just about everywhere I aimed for .

The route out was ferry to Dunkirk , then through Belgium into Germany , down through Austria into Switzerland and over the Stelvio into Italy , then on to a neat campsite between Cavalse and Tesero , a good `base' for the next week of touring around the Dolomites ( days out with no luggage , just the tankbag with a bottle of water and some lunch )

Next from Italy I headed off to the Swiss alps , on to the French alps , over the Grand Saint Bernard and the Petit Saint Bernard , across France via Langress , then on to Berck-sur-Mer for a paddle in the sea , and finally up to Dunkirk via Aidenkirk to stock up on cheap tobacco .

Thankyou for that. I have two weeks off at the end of September on the bike and it is always nice to hear of people's routes, trips and stories.

This just clicked over the 100k. It still rides like I bought it yesterday...

The EFE has taken a bit of a rest for a while , as I have decided to build a nostalgia Pro Stock bike - based on late 1980's rules , as much home-made as possible , and low budget......sorta

Using the frame from a near complete bike I bought for spares , so far its raked and some spare brackets removed , long swingarm made , and a large pile of bits collected.....

IMAG0264_zpsqqt6r0dv.jpg

IMAG0438_zpssk251htg.jpg

I've decided to make my own bodywork , to keep cost down (and already have orders to fill as soon as the mold os done ! )

Got stuck in over Christmas , and finished the plug ready for the mold

IMAG0473_zpswpisvju1.jpg

which lead to a bit of the messy stuff......

IMAG0488_zps60nythcm.jpg

A body was then made , which turned out OK

IMAG0494_zpsanfuu1wa.jpg

A quick test fit to work out what to do to the frame......

IMAG0499_zpsqjjxi87w.jpg

Then on to chopping and modding the frame , and removing all the unwanted brackets and bits

IMAG0500_zpshhgnvsbp.jpg

Still a long way to go , but things are happening !
