Its now sitting in my garage , the battery is charging - gonna spend the evening checking over the wiring.......

Looks like a lovely bike, so long as the mechanics are all good.

I hope it's all an easy fix for you.

Do you intend on making this a progress thread?

I've allready found a few corroded / burnt connectors - so shouldnt be too hard to sort . The intention is to get it looking like my last EFE - which got crashed , then turned into a drag bike.........this is it , at just a few weeks old.....

I'll post updates , as and when things happen........!

Nice bike :)

Just a suggestion but consider doing a CBT or other training day before you hop back on. My Dad bought a bike after a number of years off one and nearly wiped out several times as he just wasn't used to being on the road on a bike etc :(

Well , a couple of hours sorting the wiring (needs a new regulater/rectifier) , fresh plugs , and it fired right up - smoked a little , no nasty rattles , and sounds proper !

Took it for a quick run up the road and back - feels fantastic apart from a seized rear calliper , its got all its gears and pulls like a train

I keep looking at 1973 (or earlier) bikes on ebay with a view to buying one.  The 1980s bikes put me off due to the square-looking lights, and the Back-to-the-Future styling.

Either way, it's nice to see an old bike get restored and back onto the road.  I'm sue that you only need a few hours of slow-speed manoeuvring before you're back up to speed.

Well , I fitted a new regulator / rectifier to sort the charging......and still nothing . So then I swapped the generator windings - and bingo , sorted .

Except - when I pulled the genny cover , out poured a very thin petrol / oil mix.......like about 6 liters of it ! Vacuum fuel taps are great , when they work........so out with the oil filter , and off with the oil cooler lines - more of the same .

With fresh oil and filter in , an earth fault of the rear lights fixed - it was in for an MOT......and it passed with just one advisory - `loud exhaust'

I wrapped the baffle with the only thing I had - exhaust wrap , which has made a huge difference.

And since then - about 3 weeks ago - I have just been riding it.......a lot :thumb-up2:

Picked these up at the weekend........

GSXR600 wheels , complete with tires and discs - just £110 :D

Let the `improvements' begin

Nice bike. Suzuki's are generally pretty nice to work on. Clever too - I did a fork rebuild on my bandit, there's essentially a 24mm socket inside the fork that needs gripping to be able to undo the damper screw; after several hours of hunting around for something that would work we had a light bulb moment. The rear axle nut and bolt were 24mm A/F and long enough to put inside the fork! Good luck :)

......still riding it , still loving it , and still collecting parts for a good solid winter rebuild session

I had been looking around for various parts - my fork legs are horribly pitted , its missing the rear section of the rear mudguard , and just about everything needs a proper re-paint or powder coat .

So........I just bought a failed restoration project off ebay , which has just about all the parts mine is missing - plus all the work has been done as far as paint and powdercoat goes .

If you`re feeling brave, try fitting gsxr1000 suspension front and back...lots of lads on the bandit forum have done this and can help with technical advice. My 1200 bandit has this suspension and rides much better than standard.

I think gsxr head and cams can be fitted too, to give you more top end bhp.

I'm not planning on a suspension swap - and since I could easily get more power from the stock head than I could ever use on the road , that will be staying too .

I've had a busy week in the shed , measuring and machining , and it now has the Gsx600 Srad wheels fitted , with floating EBC discs , Zxr750 six pot calipers , and nice new tyres....... Just took it out for a 30 mile test run , and it feels so much better now !

Older bikes can look a bit low at the back, looks much better with a bit of "rake"

GSXR wheels look great too.

Been a bit quiet about this for too long......mainly because I've been too busy riding it to do much else

I did get around to changing the `bars - I was never a fan of the fork-top clipons , so a pair of cheap eblag mounts were found , the correct (for the model) clutch lever bracket fitted , and a better master cylinder to suitthe six pots went on .

IMAG0151_zpsmef20g02.jpg

Fast forward to something resembling winter , and I finally got round to working on the motor properly . It had been drinking oil since I got it , 150 miles from a litre was a bit much , so out came the spanners . It did have the normal clutch rattle , but the basket is mint......?

IMAG0158_zpsjawxarro.jpg

It does however show some nasty wear on the primary drive gear , so a fresh basket is now on the shopping list (cheaper than a heavy duty backplate , which was what was planned)

The cams , however , are toast........ While the lobes and rockers are spot on , there is serious wear on most of the bearings.....so fresh cams are now being sought.....

IMAG0161_zps7nmtjjlr.jpg

I pulled the rest of the motor (with a lift from junkyard dog , damn thing is too heavy for me :thumb-up2: ) , the bores are too worn for just new rings so a bit of a re-think on what to do there is going on......dont want a monster big bore motor , but that seems to be all that is available.......

IMAG0162_zps6mqypwto.jpg

I've sourced new stock rings from the states , and I do have an early block that has been bored with EFE pistons - if I can re-shape the fins to match the EFE ones , that may well save me a lot of money , and keep it stockish......
